Statement on Mayor’s FY27 Proposed Budget
“Today the Council received the Mayor’s Fiscal Year 2027 proposed Budget. The budget underscores the unique financial position the District is in as a result of our shifting economy. The 3.3% reduction in the operating budget, coupled with a 4.6% increase in the capital budget, shows how and why tough decisions were necessary to continue to grow our economy. Growing our economy is an essential step towards protecting our most vulnerable residents, government workers, and everyday working families.
While I am pleased to see the Mayor’s continued investments in Ward 7, there are still a number of priorities that I would like to see included in the final budget. I look forward to working with my Council colleagues, community leaders, and stakeholders to ensure this budget reflects the needs of District residents while also recognizing the fiscal constraints we face.
Over the coming weeks, I will participate in budget hearings with District agencies to advance a budget that protects critical services, supports our communities, and positions the District for long-term stability and growth. I encourage Ward 7 residents to attend the hearings and to testify to make your voices heard.”
