Statement on June 29th Shooting Outside Peace Baptist Church

“I am deeply troubled by yesterday’s shooting near Peace Baptist Church. My prayers are with the two individuals who were injured, their loved ones, and everyone in our community who was impacted by this act of violence. It is particularly heartbreaking that this incident took place directly next to a youth gun violence prevention program. No one should have to fear for their safety while working to better themselves or attending community events.

My office is in contact with the Metropolitan Police Department and will continue to provide updates to the community as we gain additional information. This type of violence will not be tolerated in Ward 7 and I remain committed to working alongside law enforcement, community leaders, and residents to combat violence in our neighborhoods and prevent future tragic incidents like this one.”
