Ward 7 is on the move — but we face real infrastructure challenges that are long overdue for attention. From deteriorating roads to outdated bridges, we need strategic investments that reflect the urgency and importance of mobility for our residents. The Lorraine Whitlock Bridge, a vital connector, is in critical need of repair. We also need maintenance and expansion of our pedestrian bridges — essential for linking neighborhoods divided by highways and waterways. Right now, the lack of connectivity limits access to jobs, schools, and daily services for far too many residents.
Our roads tell another story. Ward 7 is home to some of the most dangerous corridors in the city — including Benning Road, East Capitol Street, and Southern Avenue. These streets have seen far too many traffic crashes, and we must take bold, data-informed steps to make them safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike.
Let’s not forget: a majority of Ward 7 residents depend on public transportation to get to work, appointments, and school. But unreliable service, long waits, and inadequate connections are all barriers to opportunity. I will fight to create a system that works for the people who need it most — and a future where no one is left behind because of where they live.
