May 29 2026 Newsletter
Dear Ward 7 neighbors,
It’s been a busy few weeks! Over the last two weeks, all of the Council’s committees held their committee mark-ups, where we debated and amended the Mayor’s proposed budget for the next year. I held the budget markup for the Subcommittee on Local Business Development, where we reviewed the proposed FY27 budget for the Department of Small and Local Business Development. Over the next month, the full Council will continue to debate and amend the budget until the Council will pass the final budget at the end of June.
Also last week, the Committee on Human Services recommended establishing a fund that would later allow the Council to pass my bill, the Internet Gaming and Consumer Protection Act of 2026. The Internet Gaming and Consumer Protection Act of 2026 would legalize “iGaming” and generate new revenue for the District, while protecting consumers from illegal actors. This fund will direct revenue generated by iGaming to important causes including consumer protection and public health.
Information on upcoming budget meetings and hearings can be found on the Council’s hearing calendar. Throughout this process, I remain committed to advocating for investments that strengthen Ward 7, support local businesses, and improve quality of life for residents across the District.
