Statement on Federal Officer Involved Shootings

“I’m deeply concerned to learn about what is now the second Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) involved shooting in Ward 7 in less than a month. Since August, the rapid deployment and continued presence of federal law enforcement officers across the District has raised important questions about home rule, coordination, and community safety.

I am relieved that no one was injured in yesterday’s incident and appreciative of MPD’s swift response. Situations like these underscore the need for all law-enforcement partners to operate in ways that strengthen rather than strain trust in our neighborhoods.

I understand that this incident will be fully investigated, and I look forward to reviewing the findings. My office will continue working closely with MPD to promote transparency, improve coordination with our federal partners, and ensure that de-escalation and community safety remain our top priorities.”
