Dear Ward 7 Neighbors,

This week, the Council held our second vote on the Local Budget Act for the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget! This has been a long and difficult process, but I’m incredibly grateful to my Council colleagues for their collaboration and dedication thought this budget process.

Earlier this month we let you know that in the first read we secured significant continued investments in economic development, environmental protection, education, social services, and more. But there were still gaps to be filled, and our work was not done. I’m excited to share that this budget includes several important wins for Ward 7—investments that many residents, including myself, are particularly excited to see.

Over the last two weeks, we made significant strides for Ward 7, and I am grateful to my Council colleagues, community partners, advocates, and residents who continue to champion these priorities and push for progress in our community.

In this week’s vote, we secured:

  • $1 million for the Kelly Miller Pool
  • $500K for RFK Builds
  • $430K for Youth Activation Funding
  • $100K for Ward 7 Roving Clean Team
  • $100K for Ward 7 BID Study
  • $1 million for Gold Line planning along Benning Rd
  • $250K to acquire O Street Park

Now, while there are still things that I would like to see more funding go towards, I am pleased that, even during a difficult budget year, we were still able to secure investments that will positively impact our neighbors.

The work is never done, and we still have one more vote on outstanding items in our Budget Support Act. Keep an eye on the hearing schedule and tune into our final vote here!
