April 17 2026 Newsletter
Dear Ward 7 neighbors,
It has been a busy couple of weeks!
This week, we received the Mayor’s Fiscal Year 2027 Budget, and the budget hearing schedule has been officially released.
The budget underscores the unique financial position the District is in as a result of our shifting economy. The 3.3% reduction in the operating budget, coupled with a 4.6% increase in the capital budget, shows how and why tough decisions were necessary to continue to grow our economy. Growing our economy is an essential step towards protecting our most vulnerable residents, government workers, and everyday working families.
While I am pleased to see the Mayor’s continued investments in Ward 7, there are still a number of priorities that I would like to see included in the final budget. I look forward to working with my Council colleagues, community leaders, and stakeholders to ensure this budget reflects the needs of District residents while also recognizing the fiscal constraints we face.
Over the coming weeks, I will participate in budget hearings with District agencies to advance a budget that protects critical services, supports our communities, and positions the District for long-term stability and growth.
I also encourage all Ward 7 residents to come out to our hearings to testify to make your voices heard as we enter these next phases of the budget process Check out our guide on registering to testify here!
Through this budget and through continued partnership, we will build a Ward 7 that is safer, stronger, healthier, more equitable, and full of opportunity for every single resident.
