AUGUST 8, 2025 NEWSLETTER
Dear Neighbors,
I’m proud to share that last week, the Council voted 9-3 in favor of moving the Robert F. Kennedy Campus Redevelopment Act (B26-0288) forward – a major step toward bringing long-overdue investment and opportunity to Ward 7. I want to thank all of the neighbors who came out to testify at the public hearings, attended our town halls and listening sessions, and engaged with my office through phone or email about this deal. This outcome signaled strong momentum and commitment to ensuring this redevelopment delivers real benefits for our community. Now, as the Council heads into recess, I want Ward 7 residents to know that I am continuing to work closely with my Council colleagues, the Mayor, and the Commanders to make this deal the best it can possibly be for all Ward 7 residents.
I am also proud to share that we have already secured some important wins for Ward 7. Some of the wins include:
- $1.5 million grocery subsidy
- $50 million community benefits agreement
- Recreation and workforce opportunities for our youth
- The Fields at RFK will remain open throughout the entire process
- Residential parking protections for neighbors
- Activating the open spaces on campus, including plans for a Sportsplex, skate park, pole vaulting area, and dog parks
- $500,000 for Community Development Organizations in Ward 7
- Job opportunities and workforce development for returning citizens
- Funding for community events and ticket access
These commitments were the result of tireless advocacy, and they reflect what we’ve heard from residents – that development must center the needs of our community.
This is about more than just football – it’s about ensuring that every corner of this redevelopment brings value to the people who live here, work here, and raise their families here. While there’s more work to do before the final vote in September, last week’s action put us on the right path. It’s Ward 7’s time!
