Environmental Justice

Current State

Ward 7 is home to some of the most beautiful and underutilized green spaces in Washington, DC, with numerous parks, trails, and riverfront access points. Yet despite the abundance of natural assets, these spaces are often underfunded, poorly maintained, and plagued by illegal dumping. Overgrown trails, damaged infrastructure, and neglected community gardens diminish the potential for recreation, health, and community connection. At the same time, Ward 7 has been left out of green jobs programs that could simultaneously address unemployment and environmental stewardship. Without meaningful investment in infrastructure and workforce development, these green spaces will continue to fall short of serving the community they were meant to benefit.

Ward 7 Priorities

  • Properly fund park maintenance and green infrastructure upkeep.
  • Use environmental investment to create green jobs in landscaping, trails, and stewardship.
  • Enhance Anacostia River Trail connectivity and support cleanup efforts along the riverbanks.
