Housing

Current State

Housing instability remains a major issue in Ward 7, where vacant and blighted properties are widespread across several neighborhoods. While development interest has increased, uneven property conditions and poor maintenance by landlords continue to affect renters and homeowners alike. Many residents live in aging buildings with inconsistent utilities or code violations, and there is often a lack of enforcement. Seniors in the Ward—many of whom have lived here for decades—face additional challenges when it comes to aging in place, with too few supportive housing programs tailored to their needs. Access to affordable, stable, and quality housing is not just a policy goal—it’s an urgent necessity.

Ward 7 Priorities

  • Implement blight remediation and vacancy conversion to create housing and community space.
  • Ensure landlord accountability through enforcement and quality standards.
  • Promote affordable homeownership, support renters’ protections, and maintain reasonable rent levels.
  • Expand senior housing programs and wellness support for residents aging in place.
