Washington, DC – and especially Ward 7 – is at a pivotal moment that has the potential to dramatically change the trajectory of our local economy. The announcement that our NFL Championship team, the Washington Commanders, and the Mayor’s Office have struck a deal to redevelop the RFK Stadium Site marks an historic opportunity for our community.
This isn’t just about football. It’s about revitalizing Ward 7 with the economic anchor our Ward has long deserved. The proposed development – anchored by a new, roof- covered stadium built by the Commanders – has the potential to bring thousands of jobs, new housing, hotel accommodations, family-friendly recreation, and long-overdue neighborhood-serving amenities to our part of the city. This is a once-in-a-generation moment that we cannot let pass by! To find out more about the deal visit:
In Ward 7, we believe residents shouldn’t just have a seat at the table — they should be the ones setting it. That’s why our office has been intentional about centering community voices throughout every step of the RFK redevelopment conversation.
Over the past several months, we’ve hosted three town hall meetings, six listening sessions, and four fireside chats to hear directly from you — the residents. We wanted to know: What does this stadium deal mean to you? What are your hopes, concerns, and priorities? And how can this moment bring real, lasting benefits to our Ward?
To help guide this work, we formed a RFK Community Advisory Board made up of ten proud Ward 7 residents. This team reviewed best practices from across the country, dug deep into the feedback we received, and helped shape a vision for what Ward 7 deserves.
The result? A bold set of recommendations for a Community Benefits Agreement — rooted in your voices and focused on housing, jobs, small business opportunities, green space, and more.
