JULY 25, 2025 NEWSLETTER

Dear Neighbors,

I’m excited to share that the Council will hold its first vote on the Robert F. Kennedy Campus Redevelopment Act of 2025. This brings us one step closer to finally bringing the Washington Commanders back to their rightful home at RFK and we are doing it in a way that truly benefits our community.

The revised agreement means that the District will now keep hundreds of dollars in new revenue that would have otherwise gone directly to the team. Parking revenue and sales taxes on merchandise, food, and beverages – totaling $674 million – will now stay right here in our city. The revised deal also requires that the Commanders’ senior leadership and sales offices are in the District, outlines specific deadlines for affordable housing and retail development – with penalties if they fall behind, and redirects $600 million to a transportation fund focused on improvements to Metro.

There has also been a commitment for a $50 million Community Benefits Agreement that ties youth sports directly to education, creating new opportunities for our kids to learn and grow. I am excited to continue to work with my Council colleagues, Mayor Bowser, and the Commanders on the final Community Benefits Agreement. I, along with my RFK Community Advisory Board, have sent over our recommendations for what should be included in the Community Benefits Agreement. Please visit the RFK Site tab on my website (www.wendellfelderdc.com) to read the full Community Benefits Agreement recommendations.

This is not just about a stadium – it’s about unlocking billions of dollars in economic development, creating thousands of new housing units, and delivering much needed neighborhood-serving amenities to Ward 7. It’s Ward 7’s time!
